It is highly prized in landscape design for its stiff, deeply divided fronds that exhibit a distinct, intense silvery-blue coloration due to a protective waxy coating. This resilient species reaches a cultivated height of 25 to 40 feet with a canopy spread of 6 to 8 feet, and it regularly produces dramatic, arching inflorescences of creamy white flowers that extend up to 15 feet out from the crown during the summer months. Suited for USDA hardiness zones 9 through 11, it is among the most cold-tolerant of the blue palms, capable of surviving brief temperature drops down to 10 degrees Fahrenheit. It requires a position in full sun and achieves optimal health in sharply draining, lean, or rocky soils, demonstrating extreme drought tolerance and minimal irrigation requirements once its root system is fully established.
