This highly attractive, quick growing shade tree was developed in 1984, for its superior disease resistance. Fascinating bark is one of its most desirable features, and makes this tree particularly interesting in all seasons. When young, the peeling bark is gray-yellow to gray-orange, maturing to gray-green. It may reach as tall as 30ft in 12yrs, and generally spreads to about half of its height. Leaves are medium-dark green, turning yellow in the fall, and fruits are spiky balls. 'Columbia' is very adaptable to various soil types, urban environments and heat.
