Clustered flowers cover the branches (even the trunk!) in spring with as many as 100 rosy-lilac flowers per 5" twig followed by long-lasting purple-tinged fruits, the flowers and leaves are both edible (said to be pleasantly-acidic) and can be added to salads. S/M-D
