This uncommon species from Northern China and Korea tends to become somewhat spreading and flat-headed with age (tabuliformis meaning table-shaped). Typically reaching 30-50' in cultivation and 70' in its native habitat. Long (6") needles in bundles of two are deep-green; the bark becomes fissured with age, grey tinged with pink or orange.
