A tough and large western native shrub which is covered with white, deliciously fragrant spring flowers reminiscent of orange-blossoms. Its dense medium-green leaves and yellow fall color make it a fine hedge and its lovely shredding bark is also attractive. Botanical specimens were first collected by Meriwether Lewis on the famed Lewis and Clark expedition and used by the Native Americans long before that for soap, tools, snowshoes and more.
