A lovely, highly ornamental 6-10' shrub that is perfect as a specimen (especially if pruned to be a standard) and stunning as a hedge; dark-purple spring foliage contrasts beautifully with the abundant white tinged pink, fragrant, single flowers, the purple leaves deepen to a dark purple-green in summer, (the more sunlight the better the leaf color)and turn to dark-red in fall; July bring small dark cherries that are much loved by birds; this is a wonderful choice for urban areas with its resistance to pollution and heat tolerance.
